Lisa Kennedy is one of the founders of That Agency, bringing with her more than 15 years of IT Talent Acquisition experience. She’s responsible for helping lead the company and overseeing the recruiting and on-boarding strategy.
Lisa joined NTT (formerly Oakton) in 2008, one of Australia’s leading IT Services Consultancy at the time. While at Oakton, she helped strengthen its workforce through sourcing IT candidates, streamlining the recruitment process, enhancing the candidate journey, and making sure each individual achieved their desired goals.
“Ultimately, I love helping people. And I love being a part of somebody’s career or knowing I’ve contributed to them being given a new opportunity, getting more money and progressing their goals and dreams.”
However, after realising the pitfalls that come with dealing with large recruitment agencies, Lisa decided to offer a more personalised and tailored service by starting her own small agency, Like IT Recruitment. Within twelve months of starting Like IT Recruitment, Lisa won the SARA (Seek Annual Recruitment Awards) for Favourite Recruitment Agency in Australia. Even better, one of her first clients was in fact her old employer, Oakton.
“I thought, in a nutshell, recruitment was being done pretty poorly, and the service expected from clients just wasn’t being delivered. And I knew that I could offer what I was doing for my organisation, in an outsourced model.”
After running Like IT Recruitment herself for 9 years, Lisa has since partnered up with long-time friend and IT Specialist, Tom Huckerby, to launch That Agency. By utilising Tom’s knowledge of the latest technology and the Australian IT landscape, combined with Lisa’s strong communication and relationship-building skills, together they aim to make a positive long-term impact on people’s careers and lives.
“When I first started my business, I had a real hunger and drive to do it on my own. Now in hindsight, I realise I missed having a partner and having that person to bounce ideas off. Not only having the positive energy that Tom gives out, but also creating bandwidth – there’s only so much you can do as an individual.”
